Family Day at the Joslyn

Today was Family Fun Day at the Joslyn Art Museum.  The museum had Art-Making projects for the kids.  My niece, Kate, went with me and it was fun watching all the art being made.  The first project was Atmospheric Perspective.  It was done with oil pastels and then washed with tempera paint.  The paintings were finished by sprinkling salt on the wet atmosphere.

We also went upstairs and used some special photosensitive paper to create images.  Various objects were placed on the paper and then put under heat lamps.

Here's what the picture looked like when it was finished.  It's like magic.

 Then we went to look at the special exhibits:  The Union Pacific Railroad and Contested Terrain.

We finished the day by listening to the fun lyrics and folk music of Greenblatt & Seay.  In the photo above Deborah Greenblatt is playing the nyckelharpa.  It's a Swedish string instrument.  It was fun to see all the different instruments they could play.  Below is David Seay playing a saw.  It was fun to see Kate's face because she had never seen a saw played as a musical instrument.  It makes a really interesting sound.
